After School Mentoring Program"Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." Matthew 18:5
Our Goal is to reach out to the children in the church neighborhood who need a safe place after school where they can do their homework,
and a place where they can receive nurture and support.
The "AMP" was begun eight years ago in our church fellowship hall. It was started by Ruth and Vickie with a goal to reach out to the children in the church neighborhood who need a safe place after school where they can do their homework and a place where they can receiver nurturing and support.
The program is run by very caring adult volunteers from the church family and the community. The
target area is Fairview Elementary, although students from other schools who have a way to come are also accepted. Any child from kindergarten through sixth grade is welcome. There are healthful snacks first, and then individual help with homework. If they have no homework, then the students much pick a book to read to an adult. After that, the students have choices of playing board games with adults, games on the computers, doing an art project, building Legos, Tinkertoys or Lincoln Logs, knitting, science projects, dressing up in costumes to do instant drama, karaoke or reading. A nurse does a simple health check during the year, and at the end of the school year a student talent show is held. This "AMP" program is held two afternoons each week after school. Caring volunteers are always welcome. For more information, please call the church at 884-4053.Tuesdays
